They Are Here!!!!………

Posted: January 30, 2014 in Tyranids, Warhammer 40000

On Tuesday my Tyranids turned up, after removing the shrink wrap from the boxes and had a look at the contents. The “new” warriors  and Hive/Tyrant guard  boxed sets are rammed full of extra goodies like bone swords and lash whips.

I had spent Monday sorting out my old Tyranids from storage, and have found most of my models. One of my metal Hive Tyrants leg had broken off as had the two upper arms from a Lictor. My Zoanthrophes, Hive Tyrant, Lictors went in to paint stripper. And at the same time I sorted out 3 warriors, 8 Hormagaunts, 8 Termagaunts, and 8 Genestealers which had never been painted, ready to be under coated with Alien Purple.

I also glued together my plastic Hive Tyrant and a Tyrannofex which I had started some time ago, as well as finishing of a Carnifex.

Yesterday I started to undercoat everything that was ready and today I started to paint on the details………….

Over the weekend I went to my local gaming club, now its the first time I have been since before Christmas (it may have even been late November). But I was pleasantly surprised to find out we had 4 new members, 2 of them were die hard Warmachine/Hordes and Collectable Card Games players (I am not going back to buying WM/Hordes models, i’ve been their and done that. And I am not one to play CCG`s).

The other 2 were brothers who had gotten into Warhammer 40000 last year, and had been mainly playing in the local GW store. Now I have to admit I avoid the store like the plague, This is due to the fact that many moons ago I worked for GW (in my then local store) and the guy who runs this store is in fact one of the guys I used to work with. Don’t get me wrong he is a really nice guy and the store is always full, but I left GW way back in the summer of 1999, and he is still working their. And I am afraid that I know what I want when I go in to a store, I don’t need to be told that I need X, Y, Z, unit when all I need is a pot of paint! (this was one of the reasons I left).

Any way the brothers had brought with them their copy of Dark Vengeance boxed set, I went and pulled out a dusty plastic storage box containing my 40K  ruins and urban terrain. As they played they made comments about how good it was to play a game with proper terrain and not books and boxes as terrain. They offered me a few games but with all my 40k armies at home (and at the moment I am struggling to remember the rules, its been ages since I have played a game) I declined.

It did how ever give me the itch to start up playing 40k again, the other guys at the club can be very fickle when it comes to games. And 40k has not been played for sometime (I think the last game we played was the old Tyranid Attack board game back in 2012).

So on the way home I popped into my local supermarket to get some bits for home, and picked up a copy of White Dwarf……………..

All because on the front cover was a nice new Tyranid Harpy/Hive Crone model and inside was a whole host of new models, so I took the plunge and ordered the models from the internet with a 20% discount.

So I ordered.

Codex: Tyranids.

Ravenor Brood.

Harpy/Hive Crone.

Hive/Tyrant Guards.

Swarm boxed set (95 models For £105 less 20%).

and some army painter sprays………………… Alien Purple!

It dawned on me over the weekend that I had not had a proper look at my Deadzone Kick starter. Now when I say proper look, I mean going through all the plastic bags. I decided that the first faction I would look at were the “Plague” models. Now the basic starter set that is/will be sold by Mantic games has 11 models the KS version has 13 which brakes down in to the following.

1 x First Generation.

3 x Second Generation.

5 x Third Generation with rifles.

2 x Third Generation with HMG.

2 x Plague Hounds.

So I got 2 extra Third Generations (1 with HMG and 1 with a rifle) But unfortunately 2 of the Thirds were missing.

Next up is the Plague booster pack. Now this is not available in the Pre order packs at the moment (but will be released later on). This adds.

1 x Plague Teraton.

1 x Plague swarm.

1 x Third Generation with Grenade Launcher.

1 x Third Generation Mortar Weapon Team (2 Crew + Mortar).

Now when I placed my pledge in the first place I had decided to go for the boosters for all 6 factions these were priced at $20.00 (£12.00) each. Then the guys at Mantic added booster bundles, which offered 2 boosters and a faction booster for $50.00 (£30.00) buy one get one free (BOGOF).

The Faction boosters contain.

3 x Second Generation.

2 x Plague Hounds.

So for $150.00 (£90.00) I could have all 6 booster bundles. When I sorted things out the 3 faction boosters that turned up (the enforcers are wave 2 shipment) all 3 of them contain the “Leader” model First Generation for the plague, Rebs Field Commander, and the Marauder Commando Captain.

So in total my Plague force consists of.

2 x First Generation.

6 x Second Generation.

5 x Third Generation with rifles.

2 x Third Generation with HMG.

4 x Plague Hounds.

2 x Plague Teraton.

2 x Plague swarm.

2 x Third Generation with Grenade Launcher.

2 x Third Generation Mortar Weapon Team (2 Crew + Mortar).

Now its time to start working with Restic……………..

No I’ve not found religion, my SpineSpur Kick-starter package has turned up!

I had been worried that it had got lost in the Xmas post, when other UK backers had said they had received theirs just before Xmas. Mine had been held up at UK customs who hit me up with £24.76 in charges (I had expected it to be a lot worse). Now for those of you who nothing about SpineSpur, it is about a place similar to hell but above ground in the modern world. No one knows where it is or how to find it, but all the murders and scum are drawn to it like moths to a flame. Very few people ever manage to leave SpineSpur and most often end up dying a grizzly death in some deserted alley way!

Any way here is my copy of the rulebook and the inscription from Bob at Comfy Chair games.

Next up the contents of the box!

Now we have the models that were made from the funds of the KS.

lastly we have an extra “free” model the brutal cyclops from the unsuccessful KS Dominion of the Gods.

IMG_1528Overall I am really pleased with what I got. If Comfy Chair Games do another KS for SpineSpur then I will jump on that as well.

I am currently waiting  for some urban terrain from Ainsty Castings which will be used for my SpineSpur games. I have also backed another KS which ended today for Zombie Miniatures, Survivors, Barricades and walls from 3D Forge Miniatures mainly for their terrain (walls, barricades, skips, crashed cars etc…) then their is all the stuff from the Mars Attacks KS and the tablescape urban tiles that are due March/April time.

And i have also gotten the Batman bug from playing Arkham Origins, but that is another story……………….
