Bugs And Paints……..

Some weeks ago I won a auction for 3 biovores, Well they have taken 2 weeks to turn up. And I was a little bit shocked, the picture showed what looked like 3 fine-cast models but they are in fact metal just with a heavy coat of primer. So this morning I decided to strip them in trusty old paint stripper. The amount of paint on them was unbelievable, but now I have 3 shiny models already to be painted up.

Speaking of painting I gave the new citadel paint set a try this afternoon. I used a dark angels captain model that I have had knocking around for ages. I decided to give edge highlighting ago, and while my attempt was not perfect I was impressed with the results. I will use the technique again at some stage but it is not some thing I would use on the rank and file troops of an army.

Well the other week I took the plunge and ordered the new citadel paint set all 145 of them. And I was hoping that it would turn up on Saturday, so that I could spend 3 days farting around with them. But as with all best plans it did not turn up.

Roll on a few hours ago and I have a knock at the door. And so its here all 145 pots, well 142 as I have 1 missing, 1 half full and 1 with no label. The half full one and the one with no label will have to go back to GW and i will have to get a replacement for the missing one.

Overall I am pleased with the set but it will be a few weeks before I get a chance to try it out. My only problems with the set are.

1. why send the set out in a separate box which was strapped to the main box? Some of the paints were on their sides or upside down, which leads me to.

2. Some of the lids were not screwed on properly, Which could have lead to some spillage in the box.

I also ordered the new painting guide  which looks great for beginners and veterans alike, hopefully I will pick up some new tricks

Well some 21 years ago today I got hold of my first ever GW plastics boxed set Tyranids and Terminators.

At the time I was young and fresh into the hobby, and my path to damnation was not set in stone. Fast forward to the present day and today much to my surprise my partner gets me the new Hive Tyrant/Swarm Lord plastic kit for my birthday. How strange that I am working on the same models that I was 20 years ago!!!!!!!!

I’ve spent this morning putting the beast together as a winged Hive Tyrant, and with the plastic bits that are left over I will make a Swarm Lord with the now OOP metal Hive Tyrant kit. I have also come in to possession off  2 OOP metal Venomthropes and 2 Fine-cast Hive Guard from an auction from eBay.

Now I can see what all the fuss was over the Fine-cast models.

The 1st one is a perfect casting, but their were still a few flash lines. But over all I would give it 9.5 out of 10

The 2nd one on the over hand needs some work doing to it. It has quite a few air bubbles around the backs of the legs, and parts of the carapace need fixing up with green stuff.  This one I would give a 6 out of 10.

I am glad that I got these from eBay for £8.00 each rather than the £15.50 price tag from GW. Painting wise I have not got much further with my Tyranids as I have been busy for the last few weeks and will be for the next couple of weeks.

Well its a Bank Holiday here in the UK, and as with most bank holidays its been raining. Now Bank Holidays in the UK mean two things

One: Rain.

and

Two: James bond and Zulu on the TV (both of which are not on)

Now Zulu is a classic film and one which I have seen many times. Now way back in 1997 GW released a set of Imperial Guard called the praetorian guard (which are based on the British line infantry). Now I have to admit that I have had a soft spot for these guys for some time. But with the likes of the Catachan jungle fighters and Cadian shock troopers being in plastic, My Guard armies have always been made from them.

Now over the years many Wargames companies have made the advancement into high quality plastic models, Their are two companies that make British line infantry Warlord Games and Wargames Factory.

Now the WF models weigh in at £14 for 20 figures not to bad, But they do look a little bit spindly for my liking.

Now the WG models weigh in at £20 for 24 figures of which 4 are metal.

they also dcould this be o a starter deal which contains

60 British line infantry

20  Natal Native Contingent

2 mounted officers and a Gatling cannon in metal

All for £60.00

Now I have no plans to start up a historical army but with some green stuff and some spear lasguns i could turn these guys in to the praetorian guard.

could this be the start of a new guard army for me who knows.
