Its fair to say over the last few years I have drifted away from large scale (mass battles) wargames and moved on to small (skirmish) games. This all come about from my change of life style two years ago, leading me to have a lot more free time on my hands. It has also lead me into solo gaming, with the likes of Zombicide, Incursion, and a few others.

However I have always had an “itch” to get back into “dungeon crawl” type games, granted a few years ago I did start playing Warhammer Quest which has to be one of my favorite games. However it was short lived. I could have picked up GW’s new Warhammer Quest – Silver Towers game, however I have my doubts that it would live up to its predecessor!

One of the main reasons that I backed Mantic Games Deadzone v1 was for the solo play, however I could never get my head round the rules. And so for the best part it ended up being shelved. However with the DZ v2 kickstarter last year I had high hopes, but however the solo rules (or AI deck as it was known) are gone. Maybe they will return in a future supplement, who knows.

Zombicide by CMON, can also be played solo. And I have played many games on my own (quite a few when I was laid up in hospital) However the original seasons 1-3 were set in the modern day, while the new Black Plague is set in medieval times and while not relay a “dungeon crawl” it would at a push, pass for one  (especially some of the bigger monsters). CMON have just launched a new KS project called “Massive Darkness” however it is not going to be ready to ship until April 2017, and as much as I like most of the models  I think I will have to pass it by.

However I still have this “itch” for a good old fashioned “dungeon crawl” featuring orcs and goblins, skeletons, and all the rest. This does however lead on to Mantic`s Dungeon Saga. Now first off, I passed on the Kickstarter. At the time I had no interested in the project, and as with a few of their projects there were a fair few problems. However most of them seem to have been sorted out now. I have how ever manged to get hold of a KS backers pledge for a very good price.

Now I just have to wait for it to arrive………

When did people become so stupid?

Well a lot of people seem to have become a lot more stupid with the advent of social media sites like Facebook and twitter. Why have I decided to have a “rant” about this and what does it have to do with wargaming?

Well it started yesterday morning when a picture was put on Facebook. A picture, one single picture generated nearly 400 comments in 8 hours.

What was so special about the picture?,

Was it the death of some popular icon, Nope.

Was it a flag being burned, Nope.

Was it a the face of Ozzy Osbourne in a loaf of bread, Nope.

What was it then?

It was a picture of a table, with about 25 copies of Alien vs Predator The Hunt Begins board game on it. The picture was taken by Wayland Games who had received their stock of the game and were going to start sending it out to the customers that had pre-ordered it from them. This one picture, opened up the biggest shit throwing contest I have ever seen on Facebook. In the end I don’t know how many people were involved as I gave up reading it and it was removed at some stage last night, but it was not far from 400 comments after 8 hours. Towards the end, it had devolved in to 3 or 4 people throwing abuse at each other. But like I said I gave up reading the comment after 8 hours!

Its not the first time I have seen it.

It happened With All Quite On The Martian Front, Deadzone, Mars Attacks, Tablescapes, and Shadows Of Brimstone and to a certain extent Incursion. The reason why so many people become so stupid over kickstarter projects is simple, a lot of backers don’t like getting their stuff after people who “pre-order”. But what backers seem to miss is the extras that they are getting (a royal guard, a berserk, facehuggers, and 3 free stretch goals, as well as the base game) which comes to around £65.00 for free!.

Of course they could just have waited and picked it up at retail for £67.50 and got it on the day of release, but then they would have missed out on the freebies, and would have nothing to moan about!

Which is what is now happening with AvP.

Prodos have said that it takes the same amount of time to wrap 1 boxed game for a backer as it does to wrap 1 pallet to send to a retail outlet.

In all honesty I think Prodos set the “goal posts” to close to each other with shipping backer copies and retail so close to each other, the other thing was how many they were going to ship out each day/week (originally they were aiming for 600 a week, but that dropped to 40 a day). But with all the delays that the project has suffered over the past two years, it is understandable that they need to get AvP out the door.

Don’t get me wrong I’m pissed that I don’t have my copy yet, but with what I am getting as extras in wave 2 for free0

2 x Royal guard.

2 x Berserk.

14 x Facehuggers.

10 x Alien warriors.

2 x Predaliens.

8 x Objectives

As well as the 2 copies of the game that are on their way to me now, I am more than happy. and if the pledge manger gets re-opened then I will pick up another copy of the game!

Its time for a brief Kickstarter update!

Deadzone: wave 3 arrived mid January unfortunately it was missing 1 sprue of enforcers and 1 sprue of peacekeepers. Once they arrive my Deadzone pledge will be complete, its only 1 year late!

Tablescapes: The container was due to be delivered to Mantic on the 28th of January just need to wait for them to sort it out.

All Quite: Just wave 3 to go now, but no details on that yet.

Incursion: Things seem to be moving along now, with all the components coming together now.

Mars attacks: missing items turned up tail end of January, and the Hardback book turned up a few days ago! My pledge is now complete (its only 6 months late!)

Shadows Of Brimstone: Wave 2 looks set to ship in Q1 2016 (January – March)! Unless you want to pay for wave 1.5 shipping, in which case you get some of it summer 2015. FFP have also said they have switched another plastics manufacturer who can make more detailed models.

Alien Vs Predator: Still no firm details, but the miniatures and game box have been approved by Fox. Currently running 9 months behind.

Zombicide S3: No real update from CMON, but my order is marked up as Shipment Phase 1: February.

Afterlife: The Anvil guys (and girls) are running behind schedule (due to problems with the 3D printer) and it is likely to be April before I see my pledge.

I have also back the Conan Board Game Kickstarter that is running now (and has 5 days to go) it stands at $1.820.305.

The base game contains 74 miniatures + 30 more in the kings pledge.

Their have been 44 stretch goals knocked aside adding another 70 miniatures, and 15 Add ons (2 of which are expansions) adding 69 miniatures. Being a big fan of Conan when I was younger I just had to back the project

This year has been a mixed bag for my hobby.
I started by rebooting my Tyranids and Chaos Space Marine Iron Warriors, as well as working on some Black Templars space marines and Chaos Daemons. With the closer of my local gaming club, I had to bring my cities of death terrain and realm of battle boards back home. This in turn lead to a reboot of my CoD terrain invoking some new pieces (to replace some that were damaged) and a new lick of paint! This lead to my Blood Angels and Orks taking to the battlefield once again. All quite on the martian front showed up the tail end of June, I assembled quite a bit of my 1st wave but my health took a u-turn and I spent the best part of 2 months in hospital. When I came out I got into Zombicide (one of the old gaming group brought a copy in to hospital for me to try). The last few months have been taken back up with AQOTMF.

Next we move to kick-starter projects, and what can I say? Well in a nut shell of the 14 projects (4 are from this year) I have backed since 2013, only 3 have been fully shipped!
Of the rest well,
Deadzone: waiting on wave 3.
Tablescapes: giant cock up, waiting for re supply.
All Quite: waiting for wave 3..
Incusion: things are progressing slowly.
Mars Attacks: waiting on HB book and missing items.
Shadows of Brinstone: waited 4 months for wave 1, going to be another 12 before I see wave 2.
Aliens vs Predator: looks to be another cock up.
Both zombicide S3 and afterlife have only finished in the last 6 months and so their is nothing to say about them!

movie wise I have only seen 1 film at the cinema, The Hobbit: The Battle Of Five Armies. It was a good film and an excellent finisher for the trilogy, but was let down in two parts (I will not say what parts for those that have not seen it) but hopefully the extended edition will sort them out. Watching TBOFA has made me want to watch the other 2 Hobbit films as well as the LOTRs trilogy (just got return of the king left).

As I said before my health took a turn for the worse in the summer, this in turn has lead to me not working since. This In turn has lead to me “thinning” my collection out via eBay and some of the Facebook groups, I still have along way to go with loads to get rid of!

Looking towards next year I plan to set some goals……………

So its time for a little update on the world of Kick starter projects that I have backed.

Deadzone: Just waiting on the plastics enforcers, peacekeepers and forge guard which are due next month (December)

Mars Attacks: Waiting for the hard backed book due end of the month (November) and the items that were missing from my shipment.

Incursion: No news since my last post.

Tablescapes: Dropped a huge bombshell yesterday evening! They had not ordered enough sets (Just a few 342 to be exact). What dose that mean, well it looks like the tiles may not turn up until Q1 2015.

Shadows Of Brimstone: UK shipping has been held up because of shortages of the exclusive “red” miniatures (which are now being sent in wave 2. Shipping should start week commencing the 17th of November, I will believe it when it turns up. I may have to re name the game Shadows of Bullshit!

Aliens vs Predator: Board game rules have been posted on the KS page, as well as the tiles for the predator ship. Shipping next month (hopefully).

Zombicide S3: No news.

Afterlife: Pledge manger launched (and filled in) still looking to be on track for delivery next February.

All Quite On The Martian Front: No news if all the UK/EU shipments have been sent to Renedra or not. How ever the odd person in the UK has reported that they have received wave 2, but never received a shipping email.

So with the arrival of Mars Attacks, I can now cross that off the list of backed projects!

But that still leaves……………..

Tablescape Tiles: just waiting for Mantic to get their fingers out of their arses for this one. First it was boxes for shipping, now they want pictures so they can make sure backers get the right sets! Really is it that hard to read a piece of paper that says I want “clean”unban streets and “damaged” urban streets and then look at a box with the same written on the side? Hopefully they will turn up by the end of the month!

All Quite On The Martian Front: Hopefully the guys at AD have resumed shipping wave 2 after shutting down for 5 days to attend a show. I am trying to remain positive over the situation and hope the guys turn this around before the thanks giving holiday that is approaching! The US Land Ironclad has been put up for pre-order at £120.00 in the UK from North Star Miniatures (£108.00 from some other UK on-line stores) and it looks like it will be a one off model in the UK with orders only being taken till the 18th of November!

Incursion: No real news yet, hopefully see something by April /May 2015.

Shadows Of Brimstone: Well what can I say “no news is good news” as would “silence is golden” would both be the wrong thing to say. Flying Frog Productions have been too quite over the EU and RoW shipping issues, they have made know update as to what is going on and negative comment have been building on their KS, Facebook and Twitter pages. It seems that their reputation is taking a nose dive, their lack of communication has lead people to believe they have run out of money for EU (and Row) shipping. The have been reports of Row backers offering to pay extra just to get their games, and FFP have taken their money for it. Now I am sorry but if FFP do an update asking for extra money for shipping then I want my money back that I pledged (and the extra that I paid with paypal the other month). I’m sorry to say that if they cannot manage a project the I will never be interested in any of their products or projects.

Alien Vs Predator: Prodos have announced that they going to shipping in 2 waves, with the boxed game shipping first and then followed on by the add-ons in wave 2. A lot of backers are unhappy with this saying that it will lead to problems, but at the end of the day Prodos have been sitting on quite a lot of models for some months now which is taking up space and needs to be moved on.

Zombicide S3: nothing new on that front, only a few people moaning about shipping costs.

Afterlife: Anvil have posted up a few more 3d renders which look good the pledge manager came out the other day and I filled mine in yesterday (just in case I forget it later on) and we have been told we will get 2 weeks notice of it being closed in case we wish to add to it.

Oh well that’s this weeks KS update……………………..

Mars Attacks……………….

So yesterday afternoon I had a surprise in the form of my Mars Attacks kick starter package, I was surprised because I only received the e-mail some 6 hours earlier!

So I spent most of the afternoon sorting out the box which weighed in at 8kg, and was surprised to find out that only 3 items were missing. As I said with the Deadzone wave 2 shipment, Mantic took note of a lot of the problems that happened with wave 1. It did take me a few hours to sort out everything, as I had to keep checking the pledge graphic that Sarah from mantic sent me and cross referencing with the KS graphics as well (due to the way Mantic had sorted it out, in a good way).

I was however missing,

General Zar,

Giant Ant and handler, and

2 scenery accessory sets.

So nothing to major to worry about. Over all the models look great and to be honest Deadzone would have been better with models like these (single part and different colours)

Positive Points:

First: The models. All the models are single piece models (apart from the Martians helmets, stompy robot, the saucer and the truck). Meaning you can just open the box and play! Their are a few “mold” lines but then this is a board game and not a wargame.

Second: The terrain. Unlike Deadzone the MA terrain comes “off” the sprue meaning that it takes up less space in the box! It comes bagged up. And I seem to have got more than what I thought I was getting (their are 3 bags in the basic box plus another 3 bags and 2 large bags plus the 2 that are missing!)

Their are however a few negative points.

First: the rulebooks are the size of a US comic or graphic novel, not a really a big deal.

Second: The deluxe mats. Apart from them all being “T” junctions, mine are different shades and sizes. I have 4 with my pledge and 2 are darker than the other 2, they are also different sizes with one being 10mm bigger along one edge, another is “out” of square, one is short along one edge by a few Millimetres but long on another edge. The 3 X 3 grid is barely visible on the darker mats and is just visible on the lighter ones!

Third: The AI deck. The cards are a lot smaller then the Deadzone counter parts but were the same price! which makes me feel a little bit cheated but is not a major problem.

Forth: The 3rd party resin terrain. Now I have my doubts if this was produced by the same people that designed it, I think it was made in china with the rest of the plastic models. As it seems to be made from the same resin that was used for some of the DZ wave 2 models that I received. And their is a hell of a lot of “flash” on the models.

Overall I am pleased with what I got and I can see the terrain and mats being used for Spinespur, Doctor Who, 7TV, zombie games,Etc…..
