Archive for November, 2013

Well the roller-coaster ride of AvP finished last night, and well it went higher than I thought it would. After a rather rocky start with many ups and downs, I decided to stick with it till the end. In the final day £78.066 was raised along with 405 new backers, which meant that the 2000 backers goal was pushed aside with 2094 backers in total.

The grand total  raised was £379.141 braking 4 more stretch goals and as we were so close to the 5th prodos have allowed that one to be unlocked as well. I have to admit that when it hit £165.000 I had my doubts that the queen would be unlocked, then 2 days ago it was unlocked and as far as I was concerned that was what i had wanted most from the KS.

I started with a pledge of £275.00 “Get to the chopper” on day one, then mid point on the campaign I added £3.00 to get the Sergeant model taking me up to £278.00. Then at the beginning of the week I decided to add another pledge of £75.00 for the pledge “we’re in the pipe, five by five”.  The basic boxed set contains £100.00 worth of models + £55.00 worth of add ons and free models. Now all I have to do is figure out what else I want with the £253.00 credit and £45.00 worth of free add ons……………..

I have also backed another KS by a company called Battle-systems who make a nice 3d  sci-fi complex that could be used in DeadZone or as Hadley’s  hope…………

The problems with KIckstarters continue. In the past week, I have had 2 updates this week saying about delays. The first one has been pushed back to January next year and the other is a delay of a few weeks due to problems with printing of the rule book. Another saying that the list of items has had to be changed, due to high production costs. This has left me with the problem that half of what I will be buying will be no good to me. Now if I had know this in the first place I would not have backed the project, but it’s to late now.
Then their is the rogue trooper saga. I still have not seen a refund, but now they have a new sculptor on board who reckons he will have 3 rogue models made by the middle of December (yawn). So we will have to see what happens.

Shadows of Brimstone finished high with $1.341.305 in the final day 6 more stretch goals were broken adding 10 more models to the total. 4 more add ons were also added, adding 2 decks of cards and 5 more models to the total. I think that the next stretch goal would have been broken but a number of “trolls” hooked on to the campaign and pulled out in the last few minutes.

AvP finishes tommorow night and is currently sitting at £269.963 again this campaign has been hit by “trolls” who wait for the stretch goal to be hit before pulling their funding. I am still sitting on the fence but I have upped my pledge (so I can grab a second boxed set, which was sweetened by the last update). So let’s see what happens with AvP…………..

So a list has been leaked on to the internet of the December releases from Games Workshop. Now we will not find out if its a fake until the early hours of Saturday when they are added to the GW website.

Now from the list it seems that the Desolation Of Smaug (DoS) will not have a boxed game, but will have a book much like the LOTR journey books. Now when I bought the hardback book I had a niggling feeling that it would be out of date with the release of (DoS) but it seems my fears have been proven wrong. The rest of the releases consist of.

Legolas and Tauriel as 2 separate plastic clam shell blisters.

Palace Guards and Mirkwood Rangers as 2 plastic boxed sets.

Thranduil,Palace Guard captain, Mirkwood ranger captain, Tharain the broken, and Beorn as 5 finecast blisters.

Mirkwood spiders and Barrels out of bond as 2 finecast boxed sets.

we will have to wait and see what they look like…………..

So Saturday the 23rd of November 1963 marked the first ever episode of Doctor Who.

Now Saturday the 23rd of November 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the show, with a special episode lasting 75 minutes and bring back the 10th doctor and the 8.5 version of the doctor played by John Hurt.

Now don’t get me wrong it was good but, The inclusion of the Zygons added nothing to it. What happened with them and U.N.I.T.? towards the end we were left hanging in limbo as to the fate of them.

Then their was the focus on changing the out come of the time war. Since “new” Who started all references to the Time War have been referred as a fixed point in time, that cannot be changed. But now  Gallifrey is hidden in a “pocket dimension” and is still out their waiting to be found. Now I have the feeling that the doctor is going to be searching the galaxy for Gallifrey (much like star trek: voyager trying to find its way home).

In all I enjoyed it but I feel like the Zygons were wasted and were just used as “filler” for the episode. It would also have been the idea time for Matt Smith to regenerate into Peter Capaldi rather than the X-mas special. All in all it was good and i would give it a 6-7 out 10.

The after show party screened on BBC3 was a total waste of time. Out of the two presenter, the bloke I had never heard of before (it seems I was not the only person) and Zoe Ball just likes the sound of her own voice. Their was 20+ old companions their and they whizzed through them with questions so fast some of them had no chance of answering the questions. Add to that the shit band doing the “who” theme tune in different styles, The “live” interview with 1 direction (what was that about?) and the 5 minutes spent interviewing the two couples who were getting married the next day. Totals up to a total load of shit! So all in all I would give that 2 out of 10 (only for the fact that the old companions were their).

Lets begin this story back in February this year.

I had heard rumours of Kick starter to do with the Rogue Trooper (RT) character from 2000AD comic, and thought to myself I need to back this. When I was younger the likes of Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper and the rest were a my weekly treat in British comics. And as I had missed the Dredd kick starter I was more than happy to back this one

Roll on March, and the end of the KS I had pledge of £300.00 for a total of 15 sets from the list on the home page. I had already decided that this game for me would be a skirmish game (10-20 models per side) rather than a full on all out battle. I also decided that I would like to recreate the events of the Sov invasion of MC-1 and so filled out the pledge manger to allow me to do both.

Roll on April,May,June. And no sign of any models. Then in July we get an update, telling us of changes in the structure of the company. But they are working on the models

Now August, and September pass, nothing much happens apart from a few lies from the creator of the project. By now I have had enough, we have seen nothing  and received nothing. They even had some of the JD models at Salute 2013 (they also had the manta prowl tank, which JD backers were still waiting for!).

As we start into October and November, enough is enough I have had enough and want my money back. we are told the sculptor has made weapons, heads and pouches and has sent them off to be molded and cast up. He has also made 1 model (with out arms) but he is not happy with it, and so is starting something else…………..Which did not get funded for its stretch goal!

So in 8 months we have seen 4 models, 1 of which was rather naff, and 3 that we are NOT getting. So last week I had enough and posted a rant which got a a response from the creator near enough straight away now it seems I have started something over their as others are joining in now. One of the things that bugged me was after RT finished they launched another KS for a card game but it never reached its funding goal, but it has been released and is for sale on their web-store.

We was told that we would see some pictures on the Tuesday 19th, That never happened.

Then we were told it would be Thursday the 21st, guess what that never happened either.

So to sum it all up:

I am very disappointed with Mongoose Publishing, I was looking forward to gaming in the 2000AD universe. But after being burnt by them once before with the Starship Troopers line many years ago, then with the JD rule book from Wargames Vault in the summer, and now the lies about RT. I have had enough. I see that the backers of JD seem to be having similar problems, and I wonder how many backers of that who wanted a Manta Prowl Tank would like to know that I have one. And I was not even a backer!

As for the models that I have I may well keep them but then they may well end up on eBay who knows!

So to any that read this,

Approach Mongoose Publishing with caution.

I will never back another Kick Starter that is created by Matthew Sprange or Mongoose Publishing!

When I first read the Hobbit many many years ago, the one thing that stuck in my mind were the three trolls William (Bill),Bert, and Tom. I don`t know why but they did.

Then last year GW released the trolls  set for £45.00 to go with the The Hobbit game. Their was quite a bit of uproar over the price but in the end people saw sense in the fact their were three trolls and a camp fire. Options for the trolls were limited to two spare hands one holding a fork and the other with a spoon. Well this morning I have cleaned up and glued the models together, all three of the models are very imposing . Out of the three William (Bill) is my favourite, he is also the biggest of the three.

I have also been working on some scenic bases for the Goblins from the boxed set.

I started by making a mold from instant mold thermo plastic by using the walkways and platforms from the boxed set.

I then took some green stuff and spread it across some bases keeping it about 2mm thick.

Next I took the mold and pressed it on to the green stuff.

Then I removed the mold and place it to one side to dry……………

This time last year I was gearing up to move, I was also getting ready for the Hobbit film by restarting my Lord Of The Rings collection. Many of the models that I had painted had become chipped, so all of them headed of into the pot of paint stripper to be stripped. Games workshop released a new version of the LotR game, and re-branded as The Hobbit. I managed to paint a quite a few models but before long the project stalled!

Roll on the other day and I watched the extended edition of the The Hobbit, and I once again got the bug to paint the models. Now I have not had a copy of White Dwarf since May this year so I had no idea of what had been released, so I took a peak at the GW website. 12 new sets of models have been released since May and most of them are single figure blisters. But once again we are treated to 3 different  Finecast versions of Bilbo and Gollum, now don’t get me wrong I do like some of them (Bilbo jumping the tree stump being my favourite)

So after searching the internet I found a painting guide for the goblins from goblin town from the boxed set. after cleaning and undercoating up 20 of them I began painting………….
