So GW have snuck another new game out this weekend in the form of Imperial Knights: Renegade.

Now I know a lot of gamers consider GW prices to be high, and IK:R is no exception. It has a hefty price tag of £120.00, but inside you will find not one but TWO Imperial Knights (RRP £85.00 for the Paladin and £95.00 for the Warden) and a Sanctum Imperialis terrain kit (RRP £20.00). So for £120.00 you get £200.00 worth of plastic kits as well as the usual dice, rules and templates.

The question is how will GW follow up with this? will we see rules for the Ork Stompa, Chaos Lord Of Skulls? Or is this the Adeptus Titanicus game that has been rumoured for sometime?

With the release of the Knight warden the other day, it meant I could work on my knight “errant”.

Now the new Thunderstrike Gauntlet (powerfist) does have some “poseability” to it. You have the standard arm movement that you do with the reaper chainsword, but you can spin the gauntlet just below the “elbow”. The three fingers and the thumb can also be posed (mine is gripping the ruined wall, ready to rip it off!). it does however look better than my attempt!

While I had the boards set up I could not resist a few shots with the Skitarii and the the Knights.

As I said in my last post “scatter” terrain for my urban set up in the form of some OOP Forgeworld pieces and the OOP CoD barricades. In total I have done 11 pieces which brake down as follows.

DSCN0633 DSCN0632

The first five are the OOP Forgeworld, City Fight Barricades (left picture) and Warhammer 40000 Barricades set 2 (right picture). Its a shame that forge world stopped selling their terrain as some of it is rather nice.

DSCN0635Then with have the Cites Of Death Urban Barricades, Which were released at the same time as the CoD book (2006). I have also spent some time working on the large cathedral that I showed back at the beginning of April see

As I said the model broke in half when I lifted it off its base. After replacing all the floor tiles with the sheets from the modular movement trays from GW, It made the section above the arch stronger.

DSCN0575 DSCN0576 As you can see from the above two pictures, the weak point of the arch. Also looking back at it it now the floor tiles were the wrong choice and in my eyes make it look to much like some industrial workshop.

The new floors however make it look more like a cathedral, and have made a much stronger “join” than before. I am tempted to add a few wall sections to the back of the two towers.

Wow were have the past 10 days gone? I have been slowly been working my way through some more urban terrain in the form of some OOP Forgeworld terrain pieces that I picked up some years ago. As well as the 6 resin barricades that were released with the cites of death book, and the promethium relay pipes that were released a few weeks ago. I have also laid my hands on a Plasma Obliterator…………….

My Knights were on hold until today. The “Errant” knight is waiting for his power fist, and both bases have been painted. All that needs doing is the weathering powders. The Skitarii are also coming along my first vanguard squad is complete, and the 2nd box that I have has been split into 2 squads (5 Vanguard and 5 Rangers) I have also made up 5 Sicarian Infiltrators.

Now today sees the release of the the new Imperial Knights codex (the old one is just over a year old!) along with the new Knight Warden kit and a set of datacards. Well it would be rude not to add one to my collection (and i needed the power fist for my knight Errant).

DSCN0614Lets take a look at the sprue’s for the basic knights (paladin and errant)

DSCN0589

DSCN0587 DSCN0588

The basic Knight kit has three sprue’s, Allowing you to arm it with a Rapid Fire Battle Cannon or a Thermal Cannon and a Reaper Chain Sword.

DSCN0616

The Knight Warden kit adds a forth sprue to the other three. Adding the Avenger Gatling Cannon, Thunderstrike Gauntlet arms, Twin Icarus Autocannons, Stormspear rocket pod carapace mounts. As well as new face plates, a meltagun shoulder weapon. The Warden kit is how ever £10.00 more than the standard knight kit.

As I want the power fist for my Knight Errant, this one will be made up as a Knight Crusader armed with a Rapid Fire Battle Cannon, Avenger Gatling Cannon, and Stormspear Rocket Pod.

I have also started on a small side project to make a change from painting Red……………….

So I am still under the weather with this cold showing no signs of easing off, so hobby time has been rather sparse. the few hours that I have managed to  grab have been very productive. Firstly my Knight paladin has had his transfers added and partially weathered with weathering powders (I still need to add some dust to the carapace). I also tackled the base with some floor tiles, low wall sections and lots of sprue rubble and sand.DSCN0602DSCN0605 DSCN0606

Their are still a few bits to do the eyes and exhust vents need some work, and the body, arms, shoulder pads and carapace are all un-glued.

Now I wanted to add a second Knight, and so out of the money I got for my birthday I picked up a second model. Now I knew I wanted it to be a Knight Errant (armed with a thermal cannon rather than a battle cannon) but I also wanted it armed with a power fist rather than a reaper chainsword. A quick search of the internet found a few results but I ended up using this one as the base of the idea.

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.735501709802439.1073741909.152294311456518&type=1

I just replaced the plastic sprue with various plastic square and round tubing. (I have put the power fist “on hold” at the moment as it would seem that GW are (re-?) releasing a new Knight kit with new weapons and carapace mounted weapons in two weeks time.

Secondly I wanted to alter the pose of the model by repositioning the legs, again a search of the internet brought up quite a few ideas, but in the end I went with this one.

http://quindiastudios.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/go-big-or-go-home-imperial-knights.html

Now I followed the conversion very closely, the only change I made was the toes on the right leg (the one on the ruined wall) I cut a small “V” in the underside leaving about 1mm of plastic at the top of the “ribbed” joint. I applyed some plastic glue and left it a few seconds and then bent it down and added a some more glue.

DSCN0607

DSCN0608 DSCN0609

DSCN0610I started to paint up the armour panels first undercoating them white and then coating them with Army painter Dragon red spray. The panels that needed to be black were masked with fine line tape and masking tape and sprayed black. The shin guard and carapace with the “hazard” makings on were uncoated white and then sprayed Averland Sunset from my air brush. Then when dry were masked with fine line tape and sprayed black. When the “hazard” stripes were dry, they were masked up and the centre section was sprayed with Dragon Red.

I have also been doing some work on a squad of Skitarii, they are not far from being finished, just needing the under suit, pipe work, energy cells, and bases to be done.

DSCN0613

So its the day before Salute 2015, and a some months ago I made the decision not to go!

After last year where I spent £54.00 on getting their (2 train tickets and 2 tickets to get in) and £25.00 on bits, so this year I decided to give it a miss!

Instead I have used the money on-line to buy a few bits

Codex Eldar Craftworlds + Datacards. (I have not had an Eldar army since 2nd edition!)

Promethium Relay Pipes. (saves me from making some from scratch!)

Onagar Dunecrawler. (some fire power for the Skitarii!)

The past week or so I have been plagued by the same cold virus that I had back in February, I have been given more antibiotics from the doctor but only time will tell. This has however lead to a slow down on my my Knights and Skitarii.

I have however,

Started weathering the Knight Paladin and working on the base.

Started building my second Knight, which has involved lots of cutting.

Assembled and under coated 10 Skitarii.

Now lets paint some Skitarii……………………..

So the reinforcements for my Imperial Knight turned up yesterday just after I put up my post about the Imperial Knight. My original plan was to paint up some Cadians with respirators in a “red oxide” colour, however GW seem determined to tempt me back in to the fold with the release of the Skitarii.

Now back in the Titan legions game, Knights (and Titans) could be supported by Tech Guard  (Adeptus Mechanicus Imperial Guard regiments) These would later get the name Skitarii to seperate them from the Imperial Guard in Epic 40000, as an unofficial army list with the Knights.

With it being my birthday last week I had a sizeable influx of cash (as I am told I am hard to buy for). So I took the plunge and went for two of each boxed set that had been released plus the codex and data-cards and another Knight!

DSCN0586Now the first thing about the Skitarii army is their is NO HQ and second the imperial knight is not their either. The models themselves look fantastic, but their are quite a few bits to make each model.

With what I have I am going to use it as the following.

5 man Vanguard Squad (one of which will be the leader).

10 man Vanguard Squad.

5 man Rangers Squad.

5 man Sicarian Infiltrators Squad.

5 man Sicarian Ruststalkers Squad.

2 Sydonian Dragoons.

As well as the 2 Knights (1 paladin and 1 errant).

at some stage I will add a Dunecrawler (or two).
