In case you could not gather from the title above I am board!

For the past 10 days I have done nothing but watch TV and playing a few games of Zombicide (still not won a game playing solo).

I have shambled along with The Walking Dead, flew through time and space with Doctor Who, and got trapped Under The Dome. As well as watching various other programs on normal TV.

Gaming wise, I have only played 6 or 7 games of Zombicide. Using only 6 of the tiles (that’s what fits on the dinning room table) and 6 survivors against the hordes of zombies! It has been great fun if somewhat tiring for me, and I cannot wait to pick up season 2.

Last week it was leaked that Games Workshop were going to re-release the 3rd edition of space hulk (which was sold as a one off limited edition 5 years ago). I had hoped that it would follow along the lines of the supplements Deathwing and Genestealer and introduce the Dark Angels and Genestealer Hybrids as well as newer versions of the card floor plans. But as with GW its just a re-release of the limited version, with 2 or 3 new tiles. Unfortunately I think its a missed opportunity for GW and space hulk fans alike (even though it has sold out already)

Kick Starter wise their is still no word on All Quite On The Martian Front.

No word on Deadzone or Mars Attacks. I was sitting on the fence about Mars Attacks and was not sure if I would be keeping the plastic models but after watching The Walking Dead I may have to us the US army figures for some Zombicide games.

Both Shadows Of Brimstone and Zombicide S3 have sent out their pledge mangers  for their Kickstarters. SOB having taken nearly a year to get it ready, they have changed a few bits and pieces but nothing major. Nothing to get worried over changing out some blank cards, replacing some free tiles with plastic models, adding a few  models that did not get unlocked.

Zombicide S3 was simple for me I just added everything (well the stuff that was made for this campaign) after reading some reports about shipping charges I was surprised that mine came out at $28.73 (£17.68).

I really want to give some painting ago but with my left arm very shaky, I don’t feel confident at attempting it just yet.

Now do I have a game of Zombicide or watch some TV?………………..

Way back in the mists of time (well 1991-92) out of my birthday money I purchased a copy of the 1st edition of space hulk and played it every other day after school with my (then) gaming buddy James. We played each mission through twice once as the Terminators and then as the stealer’s. Once we had played the basic six missions to death, we then added in the rules from White dwarf and started all over again (at the time I could not afford to buy the 2 supplements Deathwing and Genestealer).

As time past me and James got into playing 40k and Epic, but Space Hulk was never forgotten!

Unfortunately when we left school we went our separate ways. And it is sad to say in nearly twenty years I have seen James two or three times.

But what has this got to do with my blog?

Well as I have been purging my collection of models I came across a dusty box, inside I found 20 metal terminators that I must have had knocking around since the 3rd edition of 40k came out. And with the advent of the plastic models being released the were boxed up and put away. Now I have had an itch to play Space Hulk again in the recent months and my wife wants to give gaming a go!

So the tail end of last week I started working on 10 of the models (2 sergeants, 2 heavy flamers, and 6 storm bolter’s) now the one thing that I do not like about the old models is their bases. The newer models use the 40mm base which is to big for the older models which used 25mm bases, I decided to hit eBay to see what I could get. I found loads of MDF, ply and plastic laser cut bases. But if I went down that route I would have to buy 25mm bases for the stealer’s!  Then I came across some 30mm plastic bases the same style as the GW ones and at £2.99 + 99p P+P for 50 base, So I order a pack.

I had already decided that I would make some “scenic” bases for the models, so I dug out my box of “off” cuts of plastic card. I have gone for some 1mm thick plane plastic card and some 0.5mm chequer plate textured plastic card. My first 10 “test” pieces look good, I had taken some pictures but my iphone decided to delete them when it synced with the laptop.

I have listed the paints that I used below after the name of the paint are two letters in brackets (XX) they are the brand of paint (just in case you were wondering).

(GW) Games Workshop.

(AP) The Army Painter.

The bases were first primed black.

Then the chequer plate section was painted with Leadbelcher (GW), and dry brushed with Necron Compound (GW) followed by a wash of  Dark Tone Wash (AP).

Once dry the other section was painted with Averland sunset (GW) even though this is a Gw base paint, I thinned the paint down and added 3 or 4 layers to make sure it was nice and smooth!

I then masked the chequer plate side with some masking tape. I then got my Wargames Bakery 5mm warning stripes stencil (I will write a review about these later) and placed it over the area painted with Averland sunset (GW) and gave it a quick spray of black.

After removing the stencil I re-touched up the yellow edges, and sponged on some Averland sunset (GW) on to the black areas to represent the black being chipped off. Next I used some Leadbelcher (GW) and sponged that on to both the yellow and black.

Now by this stage the bases were looking good. But and their is always a but, I wanted to try something else……………………
